Another CMTI tour gave us convincing evidence that translational medicine and innovation are strong across Western NY. On August 25th, we visited the Jacobs Institute in Buffalo NY, at the heart of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
Similar to our own, the philosophy of the Jacobs institute is to foster “collisions” between doctors and engineers to encourage collaborations and innovation. Therefore, their medical simulators and prototyping space are located in the same building as the Gates Vascular Institute as well as the Toshiba Stroke Research Center. It was great to see the facility and learn about the vision for the i2R (idea to reality) Center currently under development. We also enjoyed meeting with Karen Meess, an alumna of our BME undergraduate program and Nicole Varble an alumna of the CMTI MS program who is now finishing her PhD at the University of Buffalo!
What a treat – seeing amazing medical innovation space, catching up with alumni, and even stopping by the Anchor Bar for wings!!!
