Mahllet Beyene

 

Mahllet Beyene coordinates all activities of the Center for Medical Technology & Innovation, including providing administrative support for the Masters Degree and the Senior Design programs. She is involved in recruiting, processing applications, orientation, and registration processes for students in the MS program. In addition, she helps to coordinate the CMTI’s interactions with industry and the medical center. Once prototyping is underway, Mahllet assists with ordering and reimbursement for equipment and supplies for both programs. With a B.S. in Marketing and several years of event coordination experience, Mahllet is a great resource for students as they develop business models for their designs. For interested applicants, Mahllet can arrange visits and answer questions about the CMTI, or point you in the right direction for further resources.

Martin Gira

Martin Gira is a Senior Research Engineer who offers design, prototyping and manufacturing guidance to students in the CMTI. With >30 years of experience at the University of Rochester Medical Center, providing engineering and design support for a variety of research fields, he has created hundreds of devices for use in basic science and clinical research in the Dept. of Neurobiology and Anatomy, the Center for Visual Sciences, and the Dept. of Physiology.  He manages our prototyping facilities and has expertise in instrumentation, additive manufacturing, machining, electronic design and printed circuit board fabrication, and solid modeling.  Martin develops workshops and trains CMTI MS students on many of these topics.   An active participant in our design process, Martin’s creativity and expertise contribute to many prototypes in the CMTI.
